Maghera Wetlands Park –
Pre-Application Community Consultation
Mid Ulster District Council are proposing:
“The creation of Maghera Wetlands Park to include pedestrian walkways, children’s play equipment, bird hides / viewing structure, ponds, dog park and all necessary ancillary development to support the Wetland Park”
Location: Land to the north of Glenshane Road, west of Mullagh Road, south of Maghera WwTW and east of the former Maghera High Scholl site. Site also includes land adjacent to Maghera Walled Garden, Maghera, Co. Derry/Londonderry
The proposals for the Maghera Wetlands Park will enhance biodiversity through habitat creation and will be a key factor in developing the wetland site as a quality green space. Other features for consideration will include a high-quality walking trail network to allow visitors to explore the site and experience nature; natural play areas for children to engage and play creatively in a natural setting; nature interaction points with integrated seating and platforms to allow viewing and pond dipping; the installation of a bird hide; a covered outdoor event space and picnic facilities; and a dog exercise area.
