A major milestone has been reached in the ongoing plans for Giant’s Park, Belfast, with the announcement that Belfast City Council has entered into the Development Agreement with Giant’s Park Belfast Limited, for the development of 250 acres of the site. CARLIN have worked very closely with the developer for the last number of years to develop the vision for the site and reach this major milestone.
‘The Giant’s Park announcement is a huge boost for Belfast, given the scale of the investment and the jobs this scheme will create’, said Lord Mayor Councillor Micky Murray.
Another major milestone has also been reached with CARLIN submitting a key planning application in December 2024. This application relates to the creation of a landmark Adventure Park on the northern portion of the site. This complex planning application required a full Environmental Statement due to the sensitivity of the site and proximity to European designated sites. CARLIN coordinated the Environmental Statement and completed several technical chapters. CARLIN’s ecology team completed all the required ecological surveys and engaged closely with NIEA and RSPB.
The plans for the remaining 90 acres are being finalised, to include a major distribution and logistics hub. CARLIN is currently leading the planning application for this project and we look forward to working with the developer and design team over the next year.
Kevin McKay, Chief Executive of Giant’s Park Belfast Ltd said, ‘For the first time in over 60 years Belfast will see the return of public access to its coastal environment with this regeneration.’
