Maghera Wetlands Park, Maghera
Maghera Wetlands Park is a development sponsored by Mid Ulster District Council to create green and recreational space to improve health and wellbeing.
The proposals for the Maghera Wetlands Park will enhance biodiversity through habitat creation and will be a key factor in developing the wetland site as a quality green space. Other features will include a high-quality walking trail network to allow visitors to explore the site and experience nature; natural play areas for children to engage and play creatively in a natural setting; nature interaction points with integrated seating and platforms to allow viewing and pond dipping; the installation of a bird hide; a covered outdoor event space and picnic facilities; and a dog exercise area.
CARLIN hosted a public consultation towards the end of 2024 which was very well attended. The overwhelming response was positive from both individuals and organisations who attended or filled in surveys online. Their comments have been considered and a few amendments including improved accessibility, rationalised car parking and taking advice from Aquatic Consulting on implementing a sustainable bio diverse aquatic environment.
Maghera Regeneration Programme
As the third element of the Maghera Regeneration Programme, which secured a total of £10.6m, plans are being submitted in February 2025 for this new Wetlands Park on the outskirts of Maghera to enhance the natural environment and link to existing facilities at Maghera Walled Garden.
